Confidentiality
The word confidential means:-
1 intended to be kept secret.
2 entrusted with private information: a confidential secretary. (Oxford English Dictionary)
Confidentiality is vital for counselling and during our first session we will talk through exactly what this will mean and agree what our boundries are.
I truely believe that as a client it is essential for you to feel free to talk about absolutely anything, while remaining confident that you are safe with whatever you wish to share.
In order to maintain competent practice I am required to meet with a supervisor on a regular basis (minimum of 11/2 hrs per month) and while I may need to discuss some of the content of my counselling sessions, I will always avoid information that may identify any clients.
As a member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) I work within their Ethical Framework for Good Practice.
You can find more information regarding the BACP at www.bacp.co.uk .
